Our facilities are run on the principle of open access: all interested researchers, both from inside and outside Aalto University are welcome to use the common facilities. Users need a licence which is obtained by attending the safety and clean room course arranged several times annually by Aalto Nanofab's clean room engineer. In addition, most pieces of processing equipment require a dedicated user training given by the Main User for each system.

Moderate fees are charged from the users. Different fee structures are available according to users' needs, from hourly, daily and weekly up to monthly and annual fees. User fees total about 15% of the total budget of Aalto Nanofab (former TKK Micronova, former MINFAB) and cover all variable costs and part of the equipment depreciation.
MINFAB's total budget for 2006 was about 2.2M€
Main part of the funding comes from the Ministry of Education through TKK.
The annual investment in Aalto University's fabrication facilities at Micronova has been about 500k€ for a total of 3M€ up to 2006. As a result of this programme TKK now has an excellent microfabrication line. The emphasis during 2005-2009 is on developing our advanced nanofabrication capabilities.
